Robin’s childhood was spent in Gabon and France as the son of Christian and Missionary Alliance missionaries. He attended LeTourneau College, and then joined CAMA in 1984. He was assigned to Mali, West Africa as part of CAMA’s first deployment of staff to Africa.
In Mali, Robin met a nurse named Donna. They were married in 1986 and continued in Mali until 1993. From 1993 to 1997 the Dirks family served in Moscow, Russia, and then spent two years in the US while Robin earned an MBA in Economic Development from Eastern College. Following this the Dirkses lived in Guinea, West Africa for six years, where Robin directed CAMA’s work. The Dirkses returned to the US in 2005. In addition to his financial responsibilities, Robin stays involved in CAMA’s overseas work through handling special assignments such as overseeing CAMA’s Haiti response in 2010-11 and presently working with a medical project in Guinea.
The Dirkses live in Lexington, SC and have three grown children: Steve and his wife Bekah, Julia, and Philip.
