Sri Lanka
Due to a civil conflict in Sri Lanka between the Sinhalese majority and the Tamil minority which has roots that reach back more than 30 years, more than 300,000 displaced people live today in camps under inhumane and unsanitary conditions.
CAMA is working with Family Concern International to intervene and offer hope to the children of a hurting community through the local church. There is work in two communities which together serve more than 300 children in pre-school and after school programs, providing education, daycare, nutrition and extracurricular activities, including a Bible club. Nearly 40 people have become Christians in one of these communities through the outreach of the church.
With the defeat of the LTTE by the government forces in May 2009, this is an opportune time for sowing the seed of the gospel of peace and reconciliation among all the people of this beautiful island.
Your gift of $30 will provide a month’s food, clothing and education for a child of AIDS infected parents or will sponsor 10 high school students from a refugee camp, $50 will provide a month’s food, housing and travel for a camp worker.
