As the head of the maternity ward, this Ob/Gyn doctor will work alongside the national staff. The applicant will take a leading role in establishing the maternity ward along with the head midwife, national staff, and medical and administrative directors. The applicant will report to the medical and administrative directors.

- Be responsible for the daily operation of the maternity ward
- Work as the obstetrician for complicated deliveries and emergencies
- Set up all treatment protocols
- Train and guide staff in continuing education
- Train new midwives at Hope’s nursing school
- Share the gospel and evangelize
- A certified Obstetrician with at least five years of experience
- Completion of Alliance Polity course
- Completion of the Perspectives Mission course
- A minimum Modern Language Aptitude Test (MLAT) score of 40
- Pioneer mindset with a heart for sharing the gospel
- Ability to speak and write French
- Ability to work well on a national team
Biblical Characteristics Desired:
- Ability to articulate personal conversion and call to ministry
- Demonstrated heart for the poor and marginalized (Micah 6:8)
- Theological alignment with the Alliance
- Vibrant spiritual life with consistent practice of spiritual disciplines
- Ability to learn and recover from failure
Timeline for Deployment:
Summer/Fall 2023. Once appointed, and fundraising and other qualifications are met, the appointees are required to attend a cross-cultural and language acquisition program and Pre-Field Orientation prior to deploying.
Hope Medical Center started in 2003 as a small health post in the village of N’Zao. Since then, it has grown into a medical center with an outpatient clinic, surgical ward, wound care department, dental care, laboratory, pharmacy, and recently, opened a nursing school. In 2012, Hope’s leadership was transferred to national leadership. It is now ready to open a maternity ward.
This is a remote location without many entertainment options. You must be willing to work long hours.

Language is an essential part of ministry. If not already a fluent French speaker, the successful applicants will receive one year of intense French language study followed by ongoing language and cultural acquisition. The goal will be to speak, read, and write the language at a functional level to mentor, teach, and train others.
If the applicants have any health issues, it is important to know if medication will be easily available in the country.
Expectations for Spouse:
Spousal roles vary based on the spouse’s gifts, training, and abilities, as well as the needs of the team. It is expected that both spouses will be meaningfully involved in meeting ministry objectives, depending on the nature of family roles, children, etc.
Children’s Educational Plan and Options:
Homeschooling is a viable option, with a home school library and resource center available in Conakry. Dakar Academy (K-12) offers boarding options for sixth through twelfth grade.
The successful applicants will receive a full compensation package with the expectation that, once appointed, efforts will be made to raise a portion of support costs through the applicant’s network of friends and family, local church, or other resources. Information on support costs will be made available upon application. Training and/or coaching in fundraising is available.

Applicants should be aware that serving in the international world often requires a higher degree of grace and flexibility. For example, overseas teams can be suddenly and unexpectedly impacted by illness, government decisions, financial realities, team changes, or other factors beyond the team’s control. The challenge for applicants is that these factors can sometimes necessitate the sudden redefining of a position, which may take place before, during, or after the application/interview process has begun or is completed.
