Will you pray and fast with us for the future of Syria this Wednesday, December 11?
On December 8, rebel forces in Syria captured the capital of Damascus. After an 11-day offensive, 13 brutal years of civil war came to an end as the ruling family gave up power and fled the country.
With a 50-year dictatorship finally deposed, the Syrian people suddenly have the chance to reshape their future. Will you pray and fast alongside Alliance churches in Syria this Wednesday as they petition the Lord for peace, freedom, justice, and hope to prevail?
Below are parts of a letter sent by Rafik,* a local pastor from an Alliance church in Syria:
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
By the grace of the Lord, all the churches are safe, and no one has been harmed. My heart is filled with a mixture of emotions—chiefly profound relief and joy, but also a trace of concern for the uncertainties that lie ahead.
We are deeply grateful to the Lord. The events that have unfolded, and the remarkably peaceful way they have occurred, are nothing short of a divine miracle. Our prayer is that the One who began this good work will bring it to fulfillment. May the coming days continue in the same spirit of peace, paving the way for a future of freedom and hope for the oppressed and the poor, for the welfare of the Church and God’s people, and above all, for the glory of the Lord.
As it is written in Hebrews 11:3, “By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen [of events] was not made out of what was visible [the hand of humans.]” Truly, God has heard the cry of His people.
Let us remain steadfast in prayer, then, as the next phase will be critical in shaping the direction of the nation. I invite you, along with the members of your churches, to join us in setting aside Wednesday, December 11, as a dedicated day of fasting and prayer.
Together, let us unite in thanksgiving to the Lord and in earnest supplication ask for His guidance and blessings over the days to come.
Please join us as we come alongside Rafik and the Alliance churches of Syria in praying for the future of their country and for God’s glory to be know.
